Temporary City / Tijdelijke Stad’ is a group exhibition in which diverse media and disciplines are brought together in an ‘exhibition-as-settlement’.
The location, an old gingerbread factory, became the inspiration of the exhibition: that is, to place, to situate and to organize the different art works in the space not by the criteria of museums but more in the way of the dynamics of a city. Along with the exhibition, a catalogue is published in which the relationship between the temporariness and the city are considered in detail. Theoreticians from different fields wrote a short text for this project.
The participating artists are: Esther de Vlam, Stijn Van Dorpe, Nicolas Baeyens, Ada Van Hoorebeke, Yoko Enoki, Ief Spincemaille, Nele Tas, Yves Marquillie, Rogier Roeters, Karolien Hamers, Kumi Oguro, Tomas Uyttendaele, Lisa Jeannin and Rolf Schuurmans.
‘Temporary City / Tijdelijke Stad’ is open until 10th of June in Poststraat 100 in Lokeren. Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 14:00 to 20:00.
“Baroque palaces next to modern towers, small kiosks next to gigantic office buildings, domesticated walking parks next to fallow lands full of weeds, little dead end alleys and vulgar boulevards, stylish colorful billboards next to illegal placed announcements.”
