Paper Four: now it talks!

Once we talked about light in clothes with Lumalive, now we present you paper that talks. Yes it is true, no fiction at all!

Paper Four is a research project at Fiber Science and Communications Network at Mid Sweden University, Sundsvall, Sweden. The paper talks to you directly, using digital information embedded in the paper. You simply touch various parts of the display to get information to stream out of printed speakers. And this coming technology can be used in many areas, from advertising to tourist information at attractions.

Through three layers and with low cost production it is possible now to create paper that emits sound. The concept as such is new. But the technology with touch sensitive electronic functional print is owned by SCA and as such not new. The wellboard material is owned by Wellboard AB and not that new. The loudspeakers consist of a membrane of aluminium on foil, which can be produced in a precision mill, roll-to-roll, easily and quite cheap.

The paper is NOT the digital solution, but might become the interface to existing digital devices. This really opens possibilities for the art expression and of course in our everyday life. Certainly we are living amazing times!
