Running from December 9 until December 16th 2006.

As we promissed, we have been to Altitude 1000, one of the most important audiovisual events in Brussels at the end of this year. We've really impressed about the great organization and the quality of the videos presented by Foton.

But what is Altitude 1000?

Altitude 1000 reunites the Brussels audiovisual scene by combining and opening up the Foton and Cimatics Platform networks. Open to every kind of Brussels-linked artist who combines audio and visuals in intriguing ways, the Altitude1000 DVD compilation and Festival at Recyclart are the first fruits of this collaboration. Altitude1000 wants to reunite locally and promote internationally.

Organised by: Foton, Cimatics, Recyclart.

The program of the event: Performances: extreme visual arts, improvised dance, advanced video art and music are on offer.

  • Installations & expo: these are accessible during the entire festival week. A dual focus provides a recurring theme: visuals & sound, man & machine, minimal & complex.
  • Film: includes the screening of the Altitude 1000 compilation DVD as well as a film selection focussing on Brussels, from 50's to 80's movie treasures. Selected by Thierry Lecloux (Le plein de sens).
  • Public meetings: Altitude 1000 is about bringing people together. Several organisations are invited to present their work to each other and the audience. Exchanging information is the central theme of these public meetings, hosted at the Recyclart Bar.
  • Vitrin+Out: Recyclart's workshops and artists in residency participate with filmic experiments, screenings and performances.
  • Ongoing: Brussels schlagers and beats. Wein Van den Broucke, "sound hawker, recyclart-ist, bar realist", explores the whole musical spectrum from Brussels schlagers to Brussels beats and offers us each festival day in the Recyclart bar a fine selection of his findings.

We were really impressed about the quality of the videos presented by Foton, with works from Brussels-linked artists working on the convergence of audio and video. The DVD offers an intense insight into the hearts and minds of these artists by presenting works ranging from documentary film to full blown AV-tracks. Included works: Au Quart De Tour by Antonin de Bemels. Finalcall Supercrew by Bent Object and Foam. Kernwasser Wunderland by Anouk De Clercq, Joris Cool and Eavesdropper. Duet by Kris Verdonck. Glenn's Goo by The Dead Texan (Christina Vantzou and Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie) Lullabies For The Warriors by Ewo. Music by Greetings From Tuskan. Locker by Eavesdropper and Visual Kitchen. Ergon by Joel Godfroid. Sound score by Ambivalence crew. Little Figures, by Sarah Vanagt.

People really integrated in the atmosphere of this old train station, converted in art lounge to show some of the most shaking videos of the moment. Shocking trains passing by, letting us feel the vibrations. Heartbeats sounding in our ears at the rhythm of soft mountains, impossible movements, trembling eyes. We are the sound, the images, we are into it. Works that let us get a glimpse of what art and digital technologies can reach.
